In spite of the difficult circumstances that the tourism industry is facing in Italy and across the world, the World Tourism Awards, considered the "Oscars of the tourism sector" on a global scale, have once again been staged this year (virtually, given the situation). Introduced in 1993, in 2020 the awards are recognised as a reference by all tourism operators and tourists across the globe.

In the year of the twenty-seventh edition, the World Tourism Awards ceremony was held online due to the restrictions in place to contain COVID-19 infections, but in normal circumstances, every year the programme celebrates the awards assigned for the various international macro-areas with a series of regional gala ceremonies. This year, despite the challenging year that the country has faced, Italy has taken away 14 hospitality awards. Let's see some of the award-winning hotels in Italy:
