The Molise village of Macchiagodena, in the province of Isernia, has recently launched an initiative to attract tourists. The project 'Genius Loci, portami un libro e ti regalo l’anima' (bring me a book and I'll give you my soul) consists of free stays for those who leave a book in the village. Let's find out more about the scheme offering free stays to those who donate a book.
The municipality of Macchiagodena is providing 100 free stays for 2 people, from 21st June 2021 to 12th December 2021, for 4 days from Monday to Thursday, or for 3 days from Friday to Sunday in the accommodation facilities in the Italian countryside. The only requirement to be met is that those who take part must not be a resident of Molise.
As part of the process, guests, in addition to applying for free holiday, must donate a book and explain the reasons that led them to choose said book to bring to Macchiagodena, as well as what binds them to the book itself and what they expect from their holiday in the village of Molise.
All requests will be carefully evaluated, taking into account the availability of the reference period and only until the 100 available holiday packages run out. Those who visit Macchiagodena must then deposit the book in the Piazzetta della Lettura in the village at the end of their stay, a dedication space where visitors are also encouraged to leave photos, images, writings, posts, videos, etc. This space will become the collection centre for the visitors' stories which, at the end of the project, will be brought together in a souvenir book.
