Rome is the best city in Europe for travelling during the Christmas holidays. This is according to the results of a survey by EasyJet, published by the British newspaper the Mirror, where British citizens were asked their European destination of choice for the festive season. After Italy's capital, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Reykjavik are the next best European destinations to travel to this Christmas.
Rome

When it comes to Rome, more than half of the respondents answered that one of their priorities is to try local food and travel where there is likely to be snow, while 67 per cent are interested in Christmas markets. "Rome," explains the Mirror, "does not cater for snow conditions, but what it does offer in abundance is an atmosphere of seasonal charm. Christmas in Rome is full of lights, religious ceremonies and there is the famous Piazza Navona".
Paris

After Rome, in EasyJet's survey, comes Paris, which is considered the European capital of love. The magic of the Parisian atmosphere owes much to the atmospheres created by its illuminations, and at Christmas, the city is also home to ice skating, playgrounds and markets.
Amsterdam

Third place on the podium goes to Amsterdam, famous for its illuminated canal promenades, which increase its charm in winter. The multicultural vocation does the rest and never ceases to attract tourists from all over the world.
Berlin

Berlin also makes it into the top 5 favourite destinations for tourists wishing to travel during the festive season. This is due to its vocation as a city full of history and its international outlook, which attracts cultural tourism from all corners of the world.
Reykjavik

In fifth place is Reykjavik in Iceland. In addition to the attractions and tours of the city, the biggest attraction is the chance to see the Northern Lights, especially at Christmas time.
