Good news for the city of Rome. The Italian capital occupies fourth place in the ranking of the 'Europe's Best Cities Report' published by the international consulting firm Resonance. This is no small achievement, especially considering the fact that last year, in 2023, the city occupied eighth place. This means that in the space of a year, the city has leapt up four places. This is everything you need to know about the best cities in Europe in 2024.
The top 10 cities in the ranking
The study was presented during MIPIM 2024, the world's largest real estate event which took place in Cannes in March this year. The ranking includes the 100 best cities in Europe, where Rome in forth place is preceded by Berlin in third place, Paris in second place and London in first place. In fifth place was Madrid, sixth Prague, seventh Barcelona, eighth Amsterdam, ninth Istanbul and tenth Milan.

In the 'Europe's Best Cities Report', the city of Rome ranks fourth for 'livability', which includes scenic beauty, green spaces, cycle paths, and the possibility of outdoor experiences; third for 'lovability', which includes culture, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and online reviews; and fifty-ninth for 'prosperity', which includes residents' educational qualifications, employment, income, start-ups, and airport connections.
The survey also reveals that Rome is tied for first with Madrid in the restaurant category and second in Tripadvisor reviews. Resonance's analysts highlighted the fact that, after the pandemic, the city is rebounding quickly and that the credit goes mainly to the opening of new restaurants and hotels.
Gualtieri: 'Rome is in transformation, almost like an open-air construction site'
And speaking of how Rome is transforming itself, during his speech at MIPIM 2024, Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said: "Rome is in transformation, almost like an open-air building site. We are proud of this because we have been working on it a lot: we have many projects, with many resources to spend. And we have to do it well, building new parks, a new 5G network, but also many other projects to improve the quality of life of our citizens".
Gualtieri went on to emphasise: "Rome's fourth place in Resonance's 'Europe's Best Cities Report' brings us great satisfaction, and is the result of intense work to restore the city to the standard it deserves. And next year we want to do even better'.
