Today we're having a look around a marvellous 19th century castle from a noble family which in the past has also served as a prestigious film location, all for sale on idealista for six million euros. It is none other than the Castle of the Pennisi family of Floristella in Acireale, used as the backdrop for the third chapter of the saga of The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, but also for the Italian film Un Bellissimo Novembre (That Splendid November) by Mauro Bolognini, starring Gina Lollobrigida.

With an eclectic style of architecture that mixes classical elements with late 19th-century neo-Gothic, the property, put on the market by Italy Sotheby's International Realty, measures around 4,000 square metres internally and 8,000 square metres externally. The castle has 22 rooms and 8 bathrooms and stands out for its crenellations sprouting from a veritable thicket of American palm trees luxuriating in the immense park.

A monumental staircase leads to the entrance through an imposing three-arched portico, then splits in two and leads to the upper floor. Artistic ceilings, family paintings, marvellous furnishings, marble floors and a stone structure with a truly charming, old-world elegance.

The castle withstood the 1908 earthquake and the bombing of World War II by the British, whose intent was to strike at the German army, which had requisitioned it shortly before the war to make it a logistical and representative settlement, where many of its high-ranking members were present.
