In recent months, Elon Musk’s name has become increasingly associated with Italy in both political and financial circles. Now, amid ongoing international debates featuring the Tesla founder, a rumour has emerged suggesting that Musk is very interested in purchasing a property in Italy. More specifically, it is said he has his eye on a castle in Tuscany. Let’s uncover the latest updates.

The story originated in the US press and has since spread to Italy, even being picked up by British media outlets. According to reports, Musk is said to be exploring real estate opportunities in Italy. Insiders claim that the Tesla founder has been in touch with several owners of castles in Tuscany over the past few months. While no formal negotiations have been confirmed, the interest appears to be strong.

According to the same American sources, Musk enjoyed a holiday in Tuscany last November. It was during this trip that he reportedly developed the idea of acquiring a high-end property in the breathtaking countryside between Siena and Maremma. As reported by Il Tirreno, Musk allegedly visited both the Castle of Bibbiano (in Buonconvento) and the Castle of Montepò (in Scansano).

Il Tirreno further states that Musk was particularly captivated by the Castle of Montepò, a villa-fortress whose origins date back to the 1100s. Over the centuries, it has been owned by various families, including the Lords of Cotone (an ancient family from the Maremma region) and the Sergardi family of Siena. Its current form is credited to the renowned Sienese military architect Baldassarre Peruzzi, who redesigned it in the 16th century. Sources suggest this castle may be Musk’s top choice.

At present, the castle serves as an agricultural and winemaking estate owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi, who acquired it in the early 2000s. The property spans 600 hectares, including 50 hectares of vineyards, and was once owned by the family of British author Graham Greene. According to Adnkronos, Jacopo Biondi Santi, when contacted by WineNews, stated that he has not sold the property to Elon Musk.

Additionally, Il Tirreno reports that Musk’s interest in the region may extend beyond real estate. Allegedly, he has visited Tuscany to explore potential projects, including a network of solar panels to be installed on rooftops in towns and villages across the region. His good relations with the Italian government are well-documented, as is his apparent desire to launch new initiatives in the country.
