Taranto is the only provincial city in the capital to take part in the Homes at 1 euro project. After the sale of six real estate lots, related to the previous two offers, by 31st October people interested in transferring their homes in the historic centre of the Pugliese city will be able to take part in the 3rd offer to buy three new properties at a symbolic price of one euro. The aim is to upgrade and re-populate what is known as the Old Town. idealista/news visited the 1 euro homes in Taranto with Laura Di Santo, Councilor for Heritage and Housing Policies.

Homes at 1 euro offered in Taranto

"We've extended the offer – says Laura Di Santo – which now opens on 31st October, because we've had so many requests, and we've also made important changes to the technical diagrams."

"Participation is open to all Italian citizens, both community and non-community, to personal and capital companies and agencies"

Taranto, homes on sale at 1 euro

Lot one is 188m2 and is located in Postierla Immacolata, which "joins Via Duomo and Via Di Mezzo, two important city thoroughfares. Now we have the Palazzo Delli Ponti, which is already a quality centre and will be occupied by the Polytechnic."

Lot 2, with a surface area of 255 m2, is located on Via Paiesiello, another important street in the historic centre and "especially in front of Palazzo D'Ayala, which has already undergone redevelopment".

The third plot of 600 square metres is in Vico Serafico, which is another important part of the Old Town. And the choice is not causal because, as the advisor says, "Lots two and three are linked by these important arteries that are now blocked by structural issues, but which, once the lots are moved the restructuring work will commence".

It is no coincidence that "The offer of houses for 1 euro is linked to other redevelopment projects in the historic center and is the work of the entire Heritage and Old Town Redevelopment Departments"

In the previous Offers, six real estate lots were provided, all of them to private citizens, including two foreigners who want to move their homes to the Centro Storico.

Homes at 1 euro, how does it work?

After the bidding and allocation of the €1 houses, the Municipality will proceed with the act of possession within six months, as explained by Councillor Di Santo. Furthermore, a surety bond is stipulated as a guarantee by the Municipality until the necessary works are completed. These measures are important to ensure that the process of acquiring and renovating the houses proceeds safely and smoothly.

"In the second phase, which will take one year, all the necessary building permits will be completed. In the third phase, which is the end of three years after the approval, the final project will be drawn up and work will begin."
