Ever dreamt of living in the Italian countryside? Now could be your chance, as in Tuscany, you can now receive a grant of up to €30,000 to buy a house if you move to a small mountain municipality with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. This benefit is part of the newly published "Mountain Living 2024" programme, aimed at promoting and incentivising the repopulation and socio-economic revitalisation of Tuscany's mountain areas.

Tuscany Mountain Fund 2024

This is how you could get paid to move to Tuscany in 2024: with an allocation of €2.8 million from the Italian Mountain Development Fund (Fosmit), the programme is open to all Italian citizens, as well as citizens of other EU states or non-EU nationals holding a residence permit of at least 10 years, residing in a non-mountain Italian municipality.

Applications and deadlines

Applications for the grant, which can range from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of €30,000 and in any case cannot exceed 50% of the total costs incurred for purchasing the property and related expenses, must be submitted by 1 pm on 27th July 2024.

Programme to encourage mountain living

"The mountains," said President Eugenio Giani, "are a great environmental and cultural resource with equally significant economic value. The Region is investing significantly to support the quality of life and development conditions in areas to which we want to continue providing constant and impactful action. The mountain living programme, by encouraging new lifestyles, gives new life to places where new communities can grow, leading to development and growth."
